No one operates ponsdesk. ETH gathers in the till, and once it passes the trigger level a fill is armed, publicly, for anyone. The first caller to turn the machine sets the purchase in motion and keeps a slice of it for the trouble. It runs because turning it pays, and for no other reason.
Turning happens against the machine contract, from any wallet, and pays the caller.
Every fill buys exactly one equity, and the machine chooses it with a single rule: hold the whole roster in even measure, and buy whatever is furthest short of its measure. Prices drift, one holding swells, another thins, and each purchase leans against the drift. When a new equity joins the roster it arrives at nothing, which makes it the shortest thing on the shelf, so the machine raises it to level on its own, buying only, never selling. Whoever wants to know the next purchase can read the shortfalls and see it coming, and that is the point. A rule this small has nothing to hide.
Bar, current share. Tick, the even measure. The machine buys the widest shortfall.
A fill never pays five thousand drawers one by one, that is how protocols choke. It divides what it bought by the number of standing desks and moves each asset's tally up by that much, one write, whatever the population. Every desk keeps a notch, the tally as of its last delivery, and what a desk is owed is always the tally minus its notch. Delivery into the drawers happens afterward, lazily, desk by desk, and anyone may turn it through for the pay. A desk left cold for a year loses nothing, its gap just waits.

The caller is treated as hostile, always, and given nothing to steer. Timing is the caller's only input. The shortfall rule picks the equity, the till sets the size, and a price guard against the venue's time-averaged quote sets the worst fill the machine will accept. When the venue cannot fill inside the guard, the whole thing reverts, the till keeps every wei, nobody is paid, and the fill stays armed for whoever tries next. Thin liquidity gets patience, not tolerance.
